Stephen Appiah, the first captain to lead Ghana to the World Cup, has sent a welcoming message to former Black Stars teammate Sulley Muntari after he joined Hearts of Oak.

The ex-Juventus star is delighted to see the powerful midfielder join his former team, which he describes as the greatest club in the world.

Appiah took to Twitter to express his joy as well as congratulate Sulley Muntari for his decision to return to the Ghana Premier League.

"If there is one thing that makes me happy about your latest movement.... Is the fact that your name will be written amongst the great players who wore the world most adored and envious Jersey.... Welcome to the greatest club my bro.... Phoooooobia," Appiah wrote.

Stephen Appiah began his career at Hearts of Oak, playing for the Phobians between 1995 to 2007, before leaving for Italy to join Udinese.

He was also a key member of the Black Stars team that qualified for the World Cup in Germany in 2006, playing alongside Muntari in midfield.

Both players glittered at the tournament, with Muntari and Appiah all scoring a goal each as Ghana exited at the round of 16.

Meanwhile, Sulley Muntari ended up representing Ghana at all three World Cups which the country participated in, from 2006 to 2014.

Hearts of Oak announce signing of Sulley Muntari

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghanaian football giants, Hearts of Oak, have announced the signing of former AC Milan and Inter Milan star, Sulley Aliu Muntari.

The legendary Ghanaian midfielder penned a one-year deal with the 2000 CAF Champions League winners.

In a lovely video to announce his arrival, the Phobians went back to pick one of his best goals which came in the game against Uruguay at the 2010 World Cup.
