  • Danny Nii Tackie Welbeck came off the bench for Brighton and Albion in their English Premier League round 20 fixture away to Chelsea to score the equalizer for Albion in the dying minutes
  • The player had been out because of a hamstring injury he suffered and only returned to be at Coach Graham Potter's disposal in Brighton's games versus Brentford and Chelsea
  • The 90+1 minute goal from Welbeck for Brighton meant the Blues were now eight points behind title runaways, Manchester City, with their next game against third placed Liverpool

Sportsbrief.com has sighted a video of Danny Nii Tackie Welbeck's late minute snatching header for Brighton and Hove Albion to draw the EPL game with Chelsea.

The 31-year-old striker was brought off the substitute bench by manager Graham Potter for Allister in the 80th minute when Chelsea was leading by just the one goal.

A silky Marc Cucurella cross was met by the rising Danny Welbeck, caught between Chelsea duo, Chalobah and Anthony Rudiger. The added time proved enough to ensure Romelu Lukaku's 26th minute header was not a match-winner.

It was Welbeck's second Premier League goal against Chelsea, 11 years and 45 days since scoring on his first appearance against them in the competition in November 2010 for Sunderland.

The win means Thomas Tuchel and his Blues are off the pace in the English Premier League (EPL) title race by some eight points as the Citizen Blues of Manchester United elope ahead of the rest.

Chelsea looked set to move three points clear of fellow title contenders Liverpool when Romelu Lukaku marked his first top-flight start for two months by giving his side a lead, which they held until the 91st minute.

Injury and covid-19 hit Brighton carved out 18 chances in total at Stamford Bridge on what was a bad Wednesday night for Chelsea, as they lost defenders Reece James and Andreas Christensen to injury.

They head into 2022 second in the table - one point above third-placed Liverpool, who they face on Sunday at Stamford Bridge (16:30 GMT).
