Impressive African Team Arrive Cameroon Ahead of AFCON 2022 Which Kicks Off on January 9

Latest reports have it that Ethiopia are their first team to land in Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations, set to kick off on January 9, 2022.

Complete Sports are reporting that the Walyas touched down at the Nsimalen International Airport of Yaounde on Sunday, December 26.

As soon as they landed, players, technical staff and other members of the party were subjected to Covid-19 tests at the airport before moving to their team hotel.

Coach of the team Wubetu Abate and his team rounded off with a training session at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Annex 1 Stadium.

The Ethiopians return to the competition having last played in 2013 as they will chase their second continental title having won it once, back in 1962.

Ethiopia is in Group A alongside Burkina Faso, Cape Verde and hosts Cameroon.

They will face Cape Verde on January 9 after the opening match between hosts Cameroon and Burkina Faso.

The Ethiopians will come off against the hosts on matchday 2 before closing group stages facing Burkina Faso on 17 January.

Sudan release provisional 36-man squad for AFCON

Meanwhile, the newly appointed coach of the Sudanese national football team, Burhan Tia, has announced a provisional 36-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

Tia was recently appointed following the sacking of Frenchman Hubert Velud, after Sudan's early exit from the FIFA Arab Cup 2021 held in Qatar.

Only one player plying his trade abroad outside Sudan, Athar Attahir, who features as a defender for Egyptian side Smouha Al-Masry made the list.

The rest of the squad came entirely from the local league as Sudan are drawn in Group D alongside Egypt, Nigeria and Guinea Bissau.

Mahrez to captain Algeria to AFCON

Sports Brief earlier reported that Man City winger Riyad Mahrez has been selected to captain Algeria during the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.

Mahrez is part of Algeria's 28-man squad named by head coach Djamel Belmadi to take part during the continental showpiece.

Incidentally, the City star is one of the 15 players from the squad who won the competition during the 2019 edition staged in Egypt.

Algeria's squad features a star-studded team, with the majority of the players plying their trade abroad.
