Rangnick was recently appointed to the United role to replace the now sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The German appears to have not hit the ground running, with Metro UK reporting he is keen to discuss United's transfer business as soon as possible.

According to the publication, the experienced tactician has already earmarked Werner as a possible transfer target and he is looking to discuss his signing with United chiefs.

Werner has struggled to live up to his billing at Stamford Bridge since completing a £54m move in 2020.

The German striker has managed just seven Premier League goals in 43 appearances, with his lack of incisiveness in front of goal forcing Chelsea to sign a more prolific striker in Romelu Lukaku.

Rangnick is now believed to be looking to give the striker an escape route with a move to Old Trafford.

However, such a transfer will have to wait until next summer as the Blues are unlikely to consider any offers during the January transfer window.

The Red Devils already have several options upfront but Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial are likely to depart at the end of the season, while Jesse Lingard is primed for sale in January.

Rangnick to double wages at Man United

Earlier, it was reported Ralf Rangnick is reportedly set to pocket an eyewatering £8 million per year at Old Trafford.

The incredible wages are more than double what the German used to earn with Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow.

However, Man City boss Pep Guardiola remains the best-paid manager in the Premier League.
