Vinicius Junior has already laid down an ambitious marker after helping Brazil secure their maiden victory at Copa America 2024.

The 23-year-old delivered his best performance yet for the Selecao, scoring twice as Dorival Junior's men dismantled Paraguay in their second Group D match.

Vinicius shines against Paraguay

After facing heavy criticism for failing to replicate his club form for the national team in Brazil's opening game against Costa Rica, Vinicius silenced his detractors with a stellar display, ESPN reports.

He registered his first goal involvement at the tournament by finishing off a smooth team move five minutes past the half-hour mark.

The Real Madrid star fortuitously added a second goal and Brazil's third, capitalizing on some lax defending from Paraguay. This came after Savio had notched his side's second goal of the game.

He even had the chance to complete a hat-trick but chose to support Lucas Paqueta, who redeemed himself by scoring from the spot after an earlier miss.

The victory propelled the nine-time champions to second place behind Colombia, who have won their first two games of the tournament.

Vinicius sets eyes on Copa America trophy

While winning the trophy might be a long-term objective, Vinicius assured fans that he and his teammates are committed to working towards achieving that dream.

“I know that I can do better to help the national team, this team works hard every day to be able to put Brazil in the position it deserves. We will remain focused on reaching this goal, and the first step is to win the Copa America," he said, as quoted by Sportskeeda.

Fans applaud Vinicius after Paraguay show

In a previous publication, Sports Brief reported that fans were exhilarated by Vinicius' display in Brazil's Copa America 2024 match against Paraguay.

While some lauded the Real Madrid star's contributions, others rallied to his defence amidst recent criticism.

One supporter asserted, "Vinicius performs at his best when the entire world is against him."
