Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, has fired back at Nigerian coach, Finidi George, over his comments after the Super Eagles' poor results in the World Cup qualifiers.

The former Lille striker missed Nigeria's clash with South Africa and the Benin Republic due to a muscle injury he suffered in Napoli's last game of the 2023-24 season in the Italian Serie A.

He was initially included in the squad list for both qualifiers but withdrew after the injury problem happened.

Reports have it that Finidi George feels the Nigerian striker could still have managed to play the two matches, but he's committed enough to the national team.

According to a report by the Daily Post, the striker took to his official Instagram page to hold a live session to address the issue.

"I asked Finidi George to allow me to stay with the players in the camp, but Finidi asked me not to bother that I should stay with my family," he said.
"Now, after two bad games, everybody is blaming me. I know how many injuries I have played with for Nigeria, and I played my heart out, but after two bad games, everybody is attacking me."

Finidi George resigns as Super Eagles coach

Sports Brief earlier reported that Finidi George has quit his job as Super Eagles head coach after poor results in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The former Real Mallorca winger served as Jose Peseiro's assistant manager during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, in which Nigeria finished second.

He was appointed as the new head coach of the Super Eagles last month after managing the team in the international friendlies against Ghana and Mali in March.
