Nigeria are still looking for their first win in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers following another draw with South Africa on Friday, June 7.

They face the Benin Republic on Monday, June 10, looking to register a much-needed win against their former coach, Gernot Rohr.

The German coach has fired a warning to the Super Eagles ahead of the encounter in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

After three matches in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria find themselves second from the bottom with three points, while the Cheetahs are third with four points.

Last Thursday, June 6, Benin defeated Rweanda 1-0 to register their first win. They are now aiming to take down the three-time African champions.

"Nigeria is a great team. We are the underdogs, but we will play tomorrow to win," Rohr said via Complete Sports.

Nigeria's new coach, Finidi George, is also looking for his first win in a competitive match after failing to beat Bafana Bafana in Uyo.

Meanwhile, Rohr is looking to inflict defeat on his former team. The German was in charge of the Super Eagles between 2016 and 2021 and was let go just before the delayed 2021 AFCON (held in January 2022), per the BBC.

Finidi's message to Rohr

Sports Brief previously reported on Nigeria coach, Finidi, sending a warning to Rohr after their draw against South Africa.

The 1994 AFCON winner told the German-French coach he should fear the Super Eagles because they will take risks to win.

Why Finidi benched Boniface

Sports Brief also earlier reported on Finidi explaining why Victor Boniface didn't feature in Nigeria's frustrating 1-1 draw with South Africa.

The Bayer Leverkusen star was expected to lead the line, given Victor Osimhen was ruled out with injury, but he sat on the bench for the game.
