Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney, has finally opened up on his relationship with former teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo.

During their time together at Old Trafford, the duo formed one of the most lethal partnerships in the Premier League.

Ronaldo and Rooney played together for five seasons and were part of Sir Alex Ferguson's successful managerial stint in his final years in charge of the club.

To put their contribution into perspective, the pair combined for over 200 goals, winning five major trophies together, including three consecutive Premier League crowns.

However, despite their apparent nice relationship on the pitch, fans have in the past speculated the duo fell out.

Recently, Rooney appeared to snub Ronaldo while commenting on the never-ending GOAT debate pitting the Portuguese and Lionel Messi.

“I think Messi, he’s the best ever. I get a lot of stick for saying Messi where it’s as if, ‘How can you say Messi, it’s Ronaldo.’ I understand that people can say Messi, people can say Ronaldo – they are both incredible, probably the best two players to ever play the game. For me, Messi has just got that little bit more flair," Rooney said via Goal.

Rooney speaks on his relationship with Ronaldo

However, the former England international has now come to clarify his relationship with Ronaldo.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast, the ex-English striker maintained that there is no bad blood between him and the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

"We had a really good relationship, but we were the complete opposites. It was funny. Ronaldo was such a good character," he said via Sportskeeda.
The two of us would always play pranks on the manager and I would pick him up at times to take him to training or to the hotel," Rooney added.

Ronaldo speaks on his retirement

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Ronaldo opening up about his retirement plans after scoring a brace against the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday, June 11.

The Al Nassr superstar was part of Portugal's squad that edged Ireland 3-0 during their friendly meeting ahead of the Euro 2024.
