It is an exciting and stressful off-season for PSL giants Kaizer Chiefs.

They are looking for a new coach to help them become a force again, or they could continue to deteriorate further.

FAR Rabat boss, Nasreddine Nabi, has been heavily linked with the Chiefs role, and Amakhosi fans will be excited to learn how Nabi's teams play.

According to SABC Sport, the former Young Africans (Yanga) coach is the favourite to become Amakhosi's new coach. Former Mamelodi Sundowns boss, Pitso Mosimane, and Alexandre Santos, ex-Petro de Luanda coach, have been linked with the role, too.

The South African giants are looking for a permanent coach to replace Cavin Johnson, who coached the team for most of the 2023/24 season. Johnson was hired in place of Molefi Ntseki, who was fired just 114 days into his role.

Chiefs finished 10th in the 2023/24 season and went trophyless for the ninth year in a row.

Nabi is one of the best coaches on the continent. He led Yanga to two league titles in 2020 and 2021, and his expansive style earned him plaudits across Africa, per CAF. FAR Rabat are a point behind leaders Raja Casablanca with one game left in the Moroccan top flight.

Nabi explains his tactics

Kaizer Chiefs had a dismal 2023/24 season. Apart from finishing 10th, they scored just 25 league goals in 30 matches.

Nabi's FAR Rabat have scored 63 league goals in 29 matches, the best attack in the Moroccan league. The closest team has scored 49 goals, and no other side has scored more than 40 goals.

Therefore, Nabi would likely change Chiefs' fortunes in front of goal. According to The South African, Nabi gave two reasons why his team scored goals for fun.

“The first is that we have high-calibre strikers and midfielders who can give the team a scoring boost."
“The second reason is related to the offensive tendency I rely on. I always focus on this approach in my style, and it is a given that I have adopted in my previous experiences."

He emphasised that he is a risk-taker and wouldn't mind having a porous defence if it meant his team scored goals.

“Sometimes I even take risks at the expense of the defence, even if that costs me goals because I am looking for scoring, and these goals are what increase the value of matches and the team as a whole, and the display aspect is also important in football,” he said.

These words will be music to the ears of Chiefs fans who have had to watch their team struggle to score enough goals. Chiefs fans will have something exciting to look forward to if he gets appointed.

Why Nabi rejected Chiefs last year

Sports Brief earlier reported on why Nabi declined Chiefs' offer last year after personal terms were all but agreed upon.

Nabi disclosed that the Glamour Boys suggested their own assistant coaches, which compelled him to decline the offer entirely.
