Unfortunately, despite losing just one match the entire season, they still fell short in their title bid. Galatasaray finished three points above their arch-rivals to extend Fenerbahce's title drought in the Super Lig, per Metro.

The club made a blockbuster move to solve that problem, appointing Mourinho as their next head coach. He is a proven winner, having won eight league titles in Portugal, England, Italy, and Spain.

Fenerbahce's fans hope the ninth league title of his illustrious managerial career will come in Turkey this 2024-25 season.

The Portuguese boss admitted this himself in an interview with Sky Sports, saying that they have to go through three rounds of qualification for them to seal a spot in Europe's top club competition next season.

To make matters worse for Fenerbahce, Mourinho said that eight of his players are in the Euros, and they are not coming for pre-season before the first round of qualifying.

That being said, he is up for the challenge. Mourinho has won five major European trophies in his career, including the UEFA Champions League with Porto and Inter and the Europa League with Manchester United, per the BBC.

Turkish Cup

Fenerbahce last won the Turkish Cup in the 2022-23 season, beating İstanbul Başakşehir 2-0 in the final.

Mourinho will look to regain that trophy this coming season after Besiktas captured it in the 2023-24 campaign.
