All eyes will be on Wembley on Saturday, June 1, when Borussia Dortmund face Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

Los Blancos will be looking to be crowned Champions of Europe for a record-extending 15th time, while Dortmund are hoping to replicate their success in the competition from the 1996-97 season.

From a neutral perspective, many fans hope the German side can pull off a miracle and overcome Real Madrid at Wembley.

Sports Brief explores some of the reasons why Dortmund’s Champions League triumph will be a fairytale for many supporters.

Edin Terzic: From fan to Champions League finalist

In a bizarre coincidence, Dortmund manager, Edin Terzic, was present the last time his side was in a Champions League final in 2013.

As reported by GOAL, Terzic attended the game at Wembley as a fan and witnessed his favourite team lose 2-1 to Bayern.

More than a decade later, fate has presented the German with a perfect chance to guide his beloved club to glory.

Jadon Sancho’s redemption

Jadon Sancho’s career has taken an upward trajectory since his dramatic fallout with Erik ten Hag.

If the England international wins the Champions League, being forced out of Old Trafford in January will be the ultimate blessing in disguise.

Marco Reus’ last dance

As one of the only two remaining players from Dortmund's starting XI who lost the 2013 final, Marco Reus has the chance to win the Champions League for the first time.

This could potentially be the winger’s last chance to win the European trophy, as he announced earlier in May that he would be leaving Dortmund at the end of the season.

If Reus wins the Champions League in his last game for his beloved club, it will surely be a fairytale ending to his spell at the Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund survived a gruelling group and knockout stage

No one could have possibly fathomed Borussia Dortmund going all the way to the Champions League final.

When the 2023/2024 group stage draw came out, Group F, which had Dortmund, Newcastle United, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan, was labelled the ‘group of death’. Somehow, Dortmund emerged at the top of the pile with nine points.

While they were favourites against PSV Eindhoven in the Round of 16, Dortmund impressively knocked out Atletico Madrid and PSG in the quarters and semi-finals, respectively.

A win against Real Madrid at Wembley would round up the perfect tale of the underdogs.

Mats Hummels gets last chance

Finally, Dortmund’s long-serving defender Mats Hummels will get a third stab at Champions League glory.

The centre-back was part of the side that lost to Bayern Munich in 2013. Three years later, he ditched Dortmund and signed for the Bavarians, perhaps hoping to claim Champions League glory at the Allianz Arena.

He won three successive Bundesliga titles in his three years with the Bavarians, but the Champions League was not forthcoming. Football can be cruel, and this proved to be true when Bayern won the Champions League a year after Hummels returned to Dortmund.

On Saturday, June 1, the defender will arguably get his last shot at European glory.

Why Jay Z will be at Wembley

Sports Brief also reported on why Jay Z will be at Wembley for the Champions League final.

The American rapper’s company, Roc Nation, is managing one player who will be playing in the penultimate Champions League game.
