William Troost-Ekong might not have made coach Finidi George's squad list for Nigeria's clash against South Africa, but the defender is surely looking to be in on the act.

The 30-year-old defender, who has been on the treatment table following surgery on his thigh after sustaining a muscle injury during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, only returned to full team training in the final weeks of the recently concluded season.

However, Troost-Ekong is looking forward to the pulsating clash against South Africa and has recently disclosed what he will do during the course of the fixture.

Troost-Ekong speaks ahead of South Africa clash

The Super Eagles are set to face Bafana Bafana on June 7, and the PAOK Thessaloniki defender has disclosed his plans to support the Nigerian team.

"I will be in Uyo when the team arrives. Some players are coming to support the charity game, and I'll try to stay around for the match to offer moral support and share some of my experiences with the younger players.
"These are crucial games against South Africa and Benin as we aim for a spot in the 2026 World Cup," the veteran defender told Arise TV.

Nigeria currently sits third in their Group C standings after consecutive draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe. Coach Finidi George's side will be looking to reignite their FIFA World Cup qualification campaign with a victory against Hugo Broos's team.

Troost-Ekong is yet to feature in the qualification series, having been excluded from the Super Eagles squad during the initial round of matches in November 2023. The Super Eagles on the other hand are in pursuit of their first victory in 90 minutes over South Africa since 2019, per data courtesy of Fotmob.

Ikpeba names how Nigeria can defeat South Africa

In a separate report, Sports Brief stated former Super Eagles forward, Victor Ikpeba, outlined what Nigeria must do to defeat South Africa.

The 1997 African Footballer of the Year emphasised the importance of playing with high intensity. Finidi's team will host Bafana Bafana on June 7.
