The lead-up to Finidi George's first assignment as coach of the Super Eagles continues to herald Nigeria's footballing scene.

The 53-year-old kicks off his tenure as gaffer with a crucial must-win fixture against African football powerhouse, South Africa.

Nigeria's last meeting against Bafana Bafana ended in a far-from-convincing victory for the Super Eagles, which has fuelled concerns among fans of the team.

However, ahead of the crunch tie, former Super Eagles forward, Victor Ikpeba, has offered advice to Coach Finidi, stressing what he believes the Nigerian team must do to defeat Hugo Broos' resilient team.

Ikpeba speaks on Nigeria's tie vs South Africa

In an interview captured by Score Nigeria, the 50-year-old offered Coach Finidi insights on how to effectively execute the clash against South Africa to ensure victory.

"South Africa will be stubborn, as we saw at the last AFCON," warned Ikpeba.
"They have a lot going for them and are no longer intimidated by Nigeria."

The former Monaco forward emphasised that the Nigerian team must play with high intensity during the match.

"The Super Eagles have to step up to beat them in Uyo. It won’t be easy, but Nigeria has the players to win. This is the game of their lives, and Finidi has to get them to win this match."

The 1997 African Footballer of the Year concluded by stressing the need for immense support for the Super Eagles.

"We have to support the team to get the job done."

The Nigerian team are without a victory in 90 minutes against South Africa since the quarter-final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

Friday Ekpo urges support for Finidi

In another report, Sports Brief stated that former Super Eagles midfielder, Friday Ekpo, has rallied support for Finidi.

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) bronze medalist emphasised the importance of the upcoming games for Nigeria and how the fans' support would aid the manager's task.
