Jude Bellingham edged competition from Real Madrid teammate, Vinicius Junior, to clinch the Player of the Season in La Liga in his debut campaign.

The 20-year-old midfielder made it back-to-back Most Valuable Player awards, having done so in the Bundesliga in 2022–23 after an explosive maiden season with Los Blancos led to a record-extending 36th Spanish top-flight title.

Bellingham notched 19 goals in 28 appearances in La Liga, per Transfermarkt, registering six strikes in his first four games, matching Cristiano Ronaldo's long-standing record in the 2009–10 campaign.

How did Bellingham win La Liga's Best Player Award?

Deployed in a more advanced role compared to his time at Borussia Dortmund, the Englishman took to life in the Spanish capital like a duck to water.

In his maiden El Clasico, Jude struck twice in the second half, including a stoppage-time winner, to make a huge impression of himself as Madrid edged their bitterest rivals, FC Barcelona.

He came up clutch in the reverse fixture at the Santiago Bernabeu, netting another late match-winning goal to push Carlo Ancelotti's men to the league crown.

While his goals and impact decreased as the season wore on, with Vinicius taking over, his overall performance was more than enough to see him scoop the Player of the Season prize ahead of his friend and teammate.

According to Football Espana, Bellingham was announced as the winner of La Liga’s Player of the Season award on Tuesday, May 28.

He defeated former Real Madrid midfielder, Isco Alarcon, and Artem Dovbyk, who finished as the top scorer in the Spanish top tier with 24 goals.

What's next for Jude Bellingham?

Now, Bellingham will turn his attention to the forthcoming UEFA Champions League final against Dortmund on Saturday, June 1 at Wembley.

Should he win Europe's premier club competition, it will enhance his chances of becoming the first English player to win the Ballon d'Or since Michael Owen in 2001.

Bellingham 'concedes' Ballon d'Or to Vinicius

Meanwhile, Sports Brief previously reported that Jude Bellingham seems to have conceded the race for the 2024 Ballon d'Or.

The Stourbridge-born Real Madrid star suggested that his teammate, Vinicius, is more deserving of the prestigious award.
