Newly-crowned Albanian champions, KF Egnatia, have paid tribute to late Ghanaian forward, Raphael Dwamena, after winning their first-ever league title.

Egnatia defeated arch-rivals Partizani in the play-off final on Sunday, May 26, 2024, thanks to a first-half strike from Melih Ibrahimoglu.

The victory sealed their first league triumph in their 89 years of existence, but while the team celebrated the moment, they also took time to remember their captain, Dwamena, who passed on last year during a league match.

"For you, Raphael Dwamena," posted the club on Instagram after clinching the title.

The former Black Stars forward, who had a chronic heart problem, collapsed during a match against Partizani last November and subsequently died.

Dwamena, on that fateful day, was seen going down halfway into the first half of the game and despite a quick reaction from the medics, they could not resuscitate the Ghanaian attacker.

Before his demise, Dwamena had netted nine goals in 11 games in the campaign.

The player's body was transported to Ghana before he was buried on February 19, 2024, as reported by Pulse.

The former Ghana international started his career at the Red Bull Academy in Ghana and was later transferred to Red Bull Salzburg. He also had stints with FC Zurich and Levante in Switzerland and Spain respectively.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghanaian forward, Raphael Dwamena passed away after collapsing during an Albanian league game on November 11, 2023.

The 28-year-old fell in the 23rd minute of the game between FK Egnatia and KF Partizani and was rushed to the Kavaja Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Dwamena has been Egnatia's best player this season, but his complicated career ended after another episode of a heart attack.

Gyan pays tribute to Dwamena

Sports Brief also reported that legendary forward, Asamoah Gyan led the tributes as Ghanaians mourn the passing of striker Raphael Dwamena.

Dwamena collapsed and died in the game between FK Egnati and FK Partizani.

Gyan, who played alongside Dwamena, as strike partners for the Black Stars during the 28-year-old's debut, took to social media to pay his respect.
