An interesting chain of events in Serie A could see Romelu Lukaku reunited with his former manager, Antonio Conte.

Conte is on the verge of being named the new boss of Napoli to replace Francesco Calzona, who took temporary charge of the club after the sudden departure of Walter Mazzarri.

According to Gazzetta, the deal is already on the table, and the former Chelsea boss is set to sign an €8 million-a-year contract, including add-ons.

Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, revealed on Monday, May 27, that the next 10 days would be decisive for the club, suggesting Conte could be unveiled within that time.

Conte given green light to get Lukaku

Football Italia further reports that Conte has already identified Lukaku as one of his first targets if he is asked to take over at the Diego Maradona Stadium.

The pair has previously worked together at Inter Milan, where they won the Serie A in the 2020/2021 campaign.

Lukaku was in decent form that season, scoring 24 league goals and emerging second in the Golden Boot race behind Cristiano Ronaldo.

Under Conte at Inter, he enjoyed his best-ever goal-scoring form, getting 64 goals in 95 appearances.

Since Lukaku's loan spell with Roma has come to an end, the Belgian’s future is up in the air, although he is unlikely to have a place with his parent club, Chelsea.

Lukaku in, Osimhen out at Napoli?

The former Manchester United man is seen as an ideal replacement for Super Eagles star, Victor Osimhen, who is almost certainly leaving Napoli in the off-season.

The Nigerian is valued at €130 million, and his sale will allow Lukaku to replace him at the Naples-based club.

One blow Napoli could be dealt is the loss of their star winger, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is also poised to leave the club.

Paris Saint-Germain is in hot pursuit of the Georgian international, and Napoli chiefs are bracing themselves for an offer that could reach €100 million.

Journalist speaks on Osimhen’s future

Sports Brief also recently reported on a journalist’s claims about Victor Osimhen’s future with his time at Napoli seeming set to end this summer.

The likes of Arsenal and Chelsea have been heavily linked with the Super Eagles forward, but the Italian journalist believes he may depart Europe.
