The 28-year-old has since confirmed his departure, ending speculation about his future at the Theatre of Dreams.

The France international took to social media to make the announcement in an emotional message to the fans.

“Dear Manchester United fans. It’s with great emotion that I write to you today to say goodbye. After nine incredible years at the club, the time has come for me to turn a new page in my career," his statement said in part.

Martial made over 300 appearances for the Red Devils during his spell with the club, scoring 90 goals in the process.
