Ronaldo had scored 33 goals prior to his side's Monday meeting against Al Ittihad.

As such, the Portugal talisman needed just two goals to shatter the previous record held by Abderrazak Hamdallah, who set the record for the most goals in a single campaign at 34 goals.

However, ESPN reports that Ronaldo broke that record with a double against Al Ittihad, with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner opening the scoring on the stroke of the first half.

The 39-year-old went on to score his record-breaking goal in the 69th minute before Abdulrahman Ghareeb made it 3-0 in the 79th minute.

Meanwhile, despite Ronaldo's impressive goalscoring record, his side still lost the Saudi Pro League title to rivals Al-Hilal.

Per Goal, Al Hilal secured the crown with three games to spare.
