Sports Brief looks at their upcoming stints with England and Argentina at Euro 2024 and the Copa America.

Mainoo set for England Euro 2024 stint

Mainoo's match-winning display against Manchester City in the FA Cup final only bolstered his case to be one of England's starters in this year's European Championship.

He already made quite an impression in his last game for the Three Lions, winning Man of the Match honours in his first-ever start for England against Belgium last March.

He showed that he is the man to complete Gareth Southgate's midfield, which already featured Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice. The 19-year-old excelled both in attack and defence in the 2-2 draw against the Red Devils, per The Guardian.

He won possession in key areas of the pitch and helped launch blistering attacks for England with his intelligent runs and positive passing during his 74-minute cameo at Wembley Stadium.

It wasn't a complete surprise then to see Southgate include Mainoo in England's 33-man group for their pre-Euro 2024 training camp next month.

He is expected to play a key role in the Three Lions' group matches against Serbia, Denmark, and Slovenia.

Garnacho named in Argentina's preliminary Copa squad

Garnacho earned a spot in Argentina's preliminary squad for the 2024 Copa America after impressing for Manchester United this past season, per Goal.com.

The 19-year-old scored 10 goals in the 2023-24 campaign, seven of which he netted in the Premier League.

He saved the best for last in the FA Cup final, scoring the opening goal in the Red Devils' 2-1 win over Manchester City.

That performance certainly drew the attention of Lionel Scaloni, who will have to cut three players from his squad when finalising Argentina's lineup by June 12.

The World Cup-winning coach handed Garnacho his first-ever start for La Albiceleste last March in a friendly against Costa Rica.

He played 71 minutes in the come-from-behind 3-1 win before being replaced by Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.

Unlike Mainoo, Garnacho's role for Argentina, if he's included in the Copa America squad, is more of a backup player.

The defending champions' attacking lineup is stacked, with Scaloni naming Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez, Angel Di Maria, Angel Correa, Julian Alvarez, and Nicolas Gonzalez in the preliminary squad.

Such is the depth of Argentina's forward crew that Garnacho's place in the final lineup is far from certain.

Garnacho and Mainoo make history vs. City

Sports Brief recently reported on Garnacho and Mainoo making history against Manchester City.

They became the first teenage duo to score in the same FA Cup final.

Their performances drew comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo's heroics for Manchester United in the 2004 FA Cup final against Millwall.
