South African football players are proving that the country has some serious talent.

While the likes of Nigeria, Ghana, and Morocco have been praised for having players competing in the big leagues around the world, South African footballers tend to stay and play in the country.

That’s not always the case, and Sports Brief looks at five stars who have been linked with a move to a European league.

Five South Africans linked with European moves

Teboho Mokoena

The Mamelodi Sundowns man is considered one of the country’s best midfielders.

The 27-year-old has not only impressed for the Brazilians, but also turned heads with his performances for Bafana Bafana at AFCON.

As noted by GOAL, Mokoena has been linked with Bournemouth in the English Premier League, but Sundowns are eager to sign him on a new deal.

Relebohile Mofokeng

Despite being only 19, Mofokeng is in high demand.

The Orlando Pirates youngster was promoted from the Diski Challenge side at the beginning of the season, and has already netted five times in 39 games for the Buccaneers.

The Scottish Sun reported that Glasgow Rangers are keen on the youngster, but he’s also attracted interest from Red Bull Salzburg and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Asekho Tiwani

Sekhukhune United’s left-back has also made waves internationally.

The 19-year-old has made 19 appearances for Babina Noko, as they finished fourth in the DStv Premiership.

The youngster's performances could now earn him a move to Romania.

Tshegofatso Mabasa

Mabasa has been in incredible form for Pirates this season, and it’s the reason why he’s attracted interest from abroad.

The attacker has netted 19 times this season, 16 of those coming in the league, which earned him the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award.

Mabaso also attracted interest from Romania, with reports indicating that Pirates are willing to sell him.

Shandre Campbell

Campbell is another local youngster turning heads.

The SuperSport United winger has scored five goals and created six assists in 30 games this season, earning him attention locally and abroad.

SABC Sport noted that Sundowns are monitoring the star, but his agent wants him to go to Europe.

Mokoena's agent denies Al Ahly trials

Sports Brief recently reported that Mokoena was attracting interest from other clubs and reportedly would have a trial with Al Ahly.

A letter doing the rounds on social media claimed that the midfielder was set to undergo trials with the Egyptian outfit next month.

Mokoena's agent has now come out to denounce the rumours, describing these claims as and 'absolute rubbish' and 'nonsense'.
