In a remarkable milestone for African football, Nigeria's Asisat Oshoala has carved her name into history as the first African player to win three UEFA Women's Champions League (UWCL) titles.

Oshoala earned her third medal with Barcelona Femeni, even after transferring mid-season to Bay FC in the United States.

The Super Falcons star participated in the UWCL group stage with Barcelona, making two appearances and scoring once before her move.

Her contribution in the early stages helped secure her place in history, as the team triumphed in the final against Olympique Lyon, winning 2-0 at San Mames on Saturday, May 25.

The victory marked an extraordinary season for Blaugranes, who, for the first time, have clinched a historic quadruple in one season, per BSN Sports. These include the Liga F, Copa de la Reina, Supercopa de Espana, and the UWCL.

El Femeni's path to the UWCL title was paved by goals from Aitana Bonmati in the 63rd minute and a stoppage-time strike from substitute Alexia Putellas.

Asisat Oshoala makes history at Bay FC

In March, Oshoala made headlines as the first official National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) goalscorer for the newly established United States-based club. The Nigerian star, who transferred for a reported $150,000, scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 win over Angel City FC, marking a memorable start to her tenure in the NWSL.

"My career has been all about making history, doing crazy things, and I’m very happy to be part of the club's history," the six-time Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women's Player of the Year told Score Nigeria while reflecting on her career

Oshoala crowned Africa's best

Sports Brief reported that Oshoala was named the 2023 CAF Women's Player of the Year, defeating South African Thembi Kgatlana in the process.

The Nigerian international was important in Barcelona Femeni's success in the UEFA Women's Champions League and the Spanish Women's League.

The former Arsenal forward was also a key player in Nigeria's success in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, which was hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
