Super Falcons of Nigerian striker Asisat Oshoala has been crowned the winner of the 2023 CAF Women's Player of the Year Award ahead of South Africa's Thembi Kgatlana.

The Nigerian international was instrumental in Barcelona Femeni's run in the UEFA Women's Champions League and in the Spanish Women's League.

The former Arsenal forward was also one of the best players in Nigeria's good run in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

The Nigerian international in her acceptance speech took the opportunity to thank everyone and also talked about the growth of African football both in the male and female category, according to a report by Channels TV.

"This night, I would love to use this opportunity to thank everyone who has been part of my journey from grassroots football to the national level to the club side. Because without you, my coaches, and my teammates, there will be no me," she said.
"Football is a team sport; it’s a team game and I urge all the federations in Africa to please come together; let’s work together and build our continent. Let’s make it the best in the world.
"It's very possible; it happened in the last men’s World Cup; we saw what happened, and we shocked the world. In the last World Cup, all the national teams that represented Africa in Australia made history."

Oshoala rages at fans begging for money

Sports Brief earlier reported on Oshoala lamenting about fans seeking financial support in her direct messages (DMs) on social media.

The former Arsenal women's star is known for her generosity on social media, but she is presently not happy about some fans overwhelming her DMs with messages seeking financial assistance on some certain aspect.

The Barcelona striker highlighted some of the alms she wouldn't accept from fans seeking her help.
