Mason Mount will be the happiest man in the Manchester United squad after the Red Devils beat rivals Manchester City 2-1 at Wembley Stadium to win the FA Cup.

Mount joined United from boyhood club Chelsea in the summer for a reported £55 million, a deal that could rise to £60mil if some add-on conditions are met.

He has struggled in his first season due to injuries. According to Transfermarkt, he missed 27 games due to injuries and scored just once, in the 1-1 draw against Brentford.

His difficult season also extends to social media from his former fans, who constantly trolled him for leaving the club after 18 years and joining a rival team.

Mount breaks Wembley curse

United’s victory over City today means that Mount has won his first final at the Wembley Stadium on his seventh attempt. Per Goal, he lost his last six finals, four as a Chelsea player.

With the Blues, he lost the 2020, 2021, and 2022 FA Cup finals to Arsenal, Leicester City, and Liverpool, as well as the 2022 Carabao Cup final to Liverpool.

As a Derby County player under Chelsea legend and former manager Frank Lampard, he lost the 2019 EFL Championship playoff final 2-1 to Aston Villa.

The 2021 UEFA Champions League winner was also part of the England national team squad that lost the Euro 2021 final to Italy at the same stadium.

He played a limited role in today’s victory. In the additional minutes of the second half, after replacing the injured Scott McTominay, he touched the ball once, which led to a chance for Rasmus Hojlund.

Mount clashes with Enzo Fernandez

Sports Brief reported that Mount clashed with Enzo Fernandez during Chelsea’s miraculous 4-3 win over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder returned to his former club and had a spat with Argentina midfielder Enzo. Two late goals in injury time from Cole Palmer won it for the Blues.
