According to UEFA, the Technical Observer Panel found the Gabonese the best player of the competition after his impressive run with Marseille.

Aubameyang also became the competition's all-time top scorer with 34 goals, beating the record held by Colombian forward Radamel Falcao, who netted 30 times.

The 34-year-old recovered from a turbulent period at Chelsea and Barcelona to relaunch his career in France, where he was also adjudged the best African player in Ligue 1, winning the Marc Vivien Foe award, as reported by RFI.

He has been recalled to the Gabon team for June's World Cup qualifiers against Ivory Coast and The Gambia.
