Arsenal’s record signing, Declan Rice, recently opened up on a diet he had adopted before the games for his team.

Rice smashed the Arsenal transfer record last summer as he secured a move to the Emirates from West Ham.

Despite initial concern over his £100 million price tag, the 25-year-old has lived up to his reputation and has emerged as one of the standout signings across Europe this season.

According to Transfermarkt, the former West Ham star made 51 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions, scoring seven goals and getting 10 assists from the heart of the Gunners’ midfield.

Declan Rice’s diet before games

Top players tend to have exquisite diets to keep their physiques in check, and Rice is no different.

He recently did an interview with Men’s Health UK, where he opened up about what he ate before match days.

“I have four pancakes before a game. Covered in syrup or honey,” Rice disclosed.
"I swear to God, it’s the best thing… When I joined the club, I could see the [Arsenal] players eating them and thought to myself, ‘What is going on here?’ But honestly, it’s been a game changer.

According to the midfielder, he has become so accustomed to the pancake diet that he can eat up to eight on days when his team has a late kickoff.

He added, "I’ll have some at breakfast and I’ll have some more at 3.30pm before we play."

What science says about pancakes

According to Runners World, pancakes can be a great addition to an athlete’s diet if prepared correctly.

Since pancakes contain a blend of protein (from eggs) and carbohydrates, they can be a great energy-dense meal for athletes, particularly before a game.

Arsenal fall short in title race

Despite a considerable improvement this season, Rice’s side, Arsenal, fell short in the title race, finishing two points behind eventual winners Manchester City.

Unlike last season, Arsenal pushed City to the Premier League final day, hoping Pep Guardiola’s side would lose against West Ham.

When Rice humbled Tottenham fan

Sports Brief also reported on the hilarious incident when Rice humbled a Tottenham fan.

The incident took place during the North London derby, when the fan berated Rice as the midfielder was about to take a corner kick.

Rice's corner ended up being an assist, putting the game beyond the home side's reach.

As Rice joined his teammates for celebrations, cameras picked up on the fan, quickly going up the stairs and away from attention after his efforts failed miserably. The Arsenal star then turned around and taunted him back.
