Ademola Lookman has attributed his current football success to the support he has received from Nigerians following his starring performance in the Europa League final for winners Atalanta.

The 26-year-old winger made history as the first man to score a hat-trick in the competition since it was rebranded in 2009 after netting three goals to condemn Bayer Leverkusen to their first defeat in 51 games.

Speaking to Journalist Oma Akatugba after winning the Man of the Match award, Lookman disclosed that unwavering support and love from Nigerians back home has always inspired him to be better.

The London-born winger earned the love of Nigerians after playing a key role for the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring three goals in the knockout stages as the team lost the final to Ivory Coast.

Lookman, who lost the Coppa Italia final a few days ago, has been tipped by many Nigerians to be crowned as the 2024 CAF Player of the Year after his remarkable season with Atalanta and the Super Eagles.

Real Madrid urged to sign Lookman

Meanwhile, Real Madrid has been identified as the perfect destination for Lookman following the Nigerian winger’s stellar display in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, per Football Transfers.

Los Blancos, who are strong candidates to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer, have been told to pair the Atalanta winger with the Paris Saint-Germain frontman to have a lethal attacking set-up next season.

Lookman joined Atalanta in 2022 and the Nigerian has gone on to become one of the club’s best players this season, netting over 20 goals in all competitions.

Lookman eyes more glory with Atalanta

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Lookman is eyeing more glory days after scoring a hat-trick to help Atalanta win the Europa League for the first time in the club’s history.

The 26-year-old forward won his first trophy at club level in remarkable fashion, scoring all three goals as Atalanta pummelled Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 to end the German club’s 51-game unbeaten run.
