Crystal Palace forward, Jean-Philippe Mateta is backing teammate Eberechi Eze to make the England squad for the 2024 European Championship in Germany.

Mateta and Eze have been in fine form since Oliver Glasner took over as coach of Crystal Palace in the middle of March following Roy Hodgson's resignation due to ill health.

Despite Mateta's goal-scoring run, he could not make the French team for the tournament this summer but believes England will be better with Eze in their squad.

"Gareth Southgate has to call him (Eze) if he wants to win something," he told Sky Sports during the post-match interview.

Eze, who was born to Nigerian parents in England could represent the African country at senior level as he still remains eligible to play for the Super Falcons.

The Nigerian Football Federation have in the past tried to convince the former Queens Park Rangers player to play for them.

However, the 25-year-old fancies his chances with the Three Lions despite making only two senior appearances for the 1966 world champions.

Mateta and Eze combined as Palace defeated Aston Villa 5-0 on the final day of the season.

Eze ended the campaign with 11 goals and four assists in the Premier League, per Transfermarkt.

Nigeria target Olise dropped from France squad

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Nigeria target Michael Olise could not make the France squad for the 2024 European championship.

France coach Didier Deschamps named his final squad for the tournament last week without the Crystal Place star.

The West African nation will revive their interest in the forward due to his eligibility to play for the Super Eagles.

Eze identified as potential Salah replacement

Sports Brief also reported that former Liverpool forward John Barnes tipped Eberechi Eze as one of the players who could replace Mohamed Salah at Anfield.

The Egypt star has been strongly linked with a move away from the club following interests from clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Salah's future at Anfield remains uncertain after a tough campaign with the Reds in the just-ended season.
