It wasn't a complete surprise to see van Dijk react this way, given the accomplishments they achieved during their time together at Liverpool.

Klopp made van Dijk one of his top signings during the January transfer window in 2018, landing the centre-back in a world record £75m deal.

Van Dijk quickly proved to be a great signing for Klopp despite the hefty price tag.

They won eight trophies together, including the UEFA Champions League (2019), the Premier League (2020), the FIFA Club World Cup (2020), and UEFA Supercup (2020), per TransferMarkt.

Unfortunately for the Liverpool duo, their final season together didn't go according to plan.

Their quadruple bid disintegrated after they won the Carabao Cup last February. The Reds lost in the FA Cup quarter-finals against Manchester United before crashing out of the Europa League quarters with a defeat against Atalanta.
