Ngcobo's parents are Sicelo Sami and Thembelihle Audrey Ngcobo. His mother, Thembelihle, is a primary school teacher in Bulwer, in the Midlands region. His father, Sicelo Sami, also played soccer but not professionally.

Nkosingiphile developed a passion for soccer as a young boy. According to his mother, Mshini, he often played football outside until late at night. She told Kaizer Chiefs' website.

"He was always playing with a soccer ball, usually somewhere in the streets, even at night and sometimes in the house as well. And yes, Mshini would sometimes break a window in the house when miss-kicking the ball."

Nkosingiphile's family supported him on his way. They were the first fans of his growth in football, despite their insisting he also study. The footballer completed his secondary education at Orlando High School. He joined AmaRoto FC's academy at Pietermaritzburg before moving to the Kaizer Chiefs' youth structures in 2014.
