Manchester City's past final-day matches

2011-12 season

Manchester City fans will forever remember the drama that unfolded in the final game of the 2011-12 season.

Needing a win over Queens Park Rangers to capture the Premier League title, they stumbled out of the gates, trailing 2-1 entering second-half injury time.

Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero made sure the trophy was be awarded at the Etihad Stadium, scoring two late goals to hand City the 3-2 victory and the championship, per ESPN.

2012-13 season

Manchester City ended their 2012-13 league campaign with a 3-2 loss to Norwich City.

They played this game without a manager after Roberto Mancini was sacked following their defeat in the FA Cup final.

With the loss, City finished 11 points behind champions, Manchester United, in the league table.

2013-14 season

Manchester City needed a victory on the final day of the 2013-14 season to claim their second league title in three years.

They did just that, beating West Ham 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium. Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany scored the goals for City, who finished two points above Liverpool in the league table.

2014-15 season

Man City ended their 2014-15 league campaign with a 2-0 win over Southampton.

Frank Lampard and Sergio Aguero scored the goals for City, who finished second in the Premier League table behind champions, Chelsea.

2015-16 season

Manchester City ended their 2015-16 league campaign with a 1-1 draw against Swansea City.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored the goal for City, who finished fourth in the Premier League table behind champions Leicester City, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur.

2016-17 season

Manchester City concluded their 2016-17 season with a resounding 5-0 win over Watford.

Sergio Aguero scored a brace for City, who finished third in the Premier League table behind champions, Chelsea, and Tottenham.

2017-18 season

Manchester City ended their historic 2017-18 Premier League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Southampton.

They became the first team to finish a season with 100 points. They recorded 32 wins, four draws, and two losses to finish 19 points ahead of second-placed Manchester United.

2018-19 season

Manchester City headed into the final day of the 2018-19 season with the title destiny in their hands.

A 13-match winning streak saw City grab a one-point lead over Liverpool heading into Matchweek 38.

They got off to a horrible start in the match against Brighton and Hove Albion, though, with Glenn Murray scoring the opening goal for the Seagulls in the 27th minute.

City immediately responded, with Sergio Aguero scoring the equaliser in the 28th minute. Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez, and Ilkay Gundogan added goals for City, who cruised to a 4-1 win.

2019-20 season

Man City ended their 2019-20 league campaign with a 5-0 win over Norwich City.

Kevin De Bruyne scored a brace for City, who finished second in the Premier League table behind champions, Liverpool.

2020-21 season

Manchester City headed into the final day of the 2020-21 season with the championship already in their hands.

They finished the campaign with a 12-point lead over second-placed Manchester United after crushing Everton 5-0 on the final day.

2021-22 season

Manchester City fans will never forget the drama that transpired in the final game of the 2021-22 season. They trailed Aston Villa 2-0 after 69 minutes, opening the door for Liverpool to steal the title on the final day.

There's no quit with the defending champions, who unleashed a furious fightback in the final 20 minutes.

Ilkay Gundogan pulled a goal back in the 76th minute before Rodri tied the match at 2-2 in the 78th minute.

Gundogan then completed the comeback with a goal in the 81st minute, sending the home fans into a frenzy, per The Guardian.

City held on for a 3-2 win, finishing the season with a one-point lead over second-placed Liverpool.

2022-23 season

Manchester City ended their 2022-23 league campaign with a 1-0 loss to Brentford.

It was a defeat that Pep Guardiola's men could afford as they had already secured the title before the final day.

They finished the season with a five-point lead over second-placed Arsenal, who collapsed down the stretch in the title race.
