Victor Boniface has dedicated the Bundesliga Rookie of the Year award to his fans, following his announcement as the winner of the prestigious gong by league organisers.

According to Daily Post, Boniface was nominated alongside RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simmons, Borussia Dortmund’s Ian Maatsen, and Hoffenheim’s Maximilian Beier as the league's best newcomer.

The 23-year-old, who joined Bayer Leverkusen last summer from Union SG in Belgium, made an instant impact in the Bundesliga, winning the Rookie of the Month award for four months in a row.

Without losing a game, Leverkusen would go on to win the Bundesliga title for the first time in 120 years, dethroning Bayern Munich after an 11-season era of dominance.

Boniface dedicates award to fans

Meanwhile, following his crowning moment as the Bundesliga Rookie of the Year, Boniface has used the opportunity to appreciate his fans who made the victory possible.

The Nigerian forward took to X (formerly Twitter) to thank fans for voting for him to win the special award, which was thrown open to votes by the league organisers.

Boniface will hope to add more icing to the cake for Leverkusen as Alonso's men continue to push for a treble.

Die Werkself are through to the finals of both the DFB-Pokal and the Europa League, in addition to the Bundesliga title they secured with games to spare.

Boniface breaks out Nigerian dance

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Boniface celebrated Bayer Leverkusen's win over VfL Bochum in style by showing some Nigerian dance moves to celebrate the club’s 50th-game unbeaten run.

The German champions reached the memorable milestone after a 5-0 win at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion on May 12. The Super Eagles star held a '50' balloon' as he broke out the popular local dance.
