Amad Diallo delivered a stellar performance for Manchester United, contributing significantly to their 3-2 victory against Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

Diallo, previously uncertain to feature due to an injury sustained in the 1-0 loss to Arsenal, commenced the match for the Red Devils, marking the penultimate game of the season.

The ex-Atalanta winger reciprocated Erik ten Hag's faith in him by netting in their win over Eddie Howe's side.

The Ivory Coast international provided a slick pass to set up Kobbie Mainoo's goal and later delivered a blow to the Magpies with a remarkable goal in the second half, per Eurosport.

Amad matches Antony's goal contribution

Amad now boasts two goal contributions in the Premier League this season, matching Antony's total for the entire campaign, per Centregoals.

While the 24-year-old has scored one goal and provided one assist in the league, Amad achieved the same feat without requiring 29 appearances.

Indeed, Amad has equalled the ex-Ajax forward's goal contributions tally in just eight appearances – a remarkable 21 games fewer than the Brazilian.

The 21-year-old will be optimistic that his outstanding performance will persuade Erik ten Hag to continue fielding him regularly, perhaps even starting him in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

When did Antony score his season opener?

Antony had only managed to score one goal across all competitions this season, coincidentally in the FA Cup against Newport County, as cited by the Standard.

Fate had it that the 24-year-old would score his second goal of the season, this time against Manchester United's arch-rivals, Liverpool, in the Premier League.

For context, it was the former Ajax star boy's maiden goal at Old Trafford in 373 days, according to ESPN, highlighting his struggles in front of goal.

Ex-United star backs Antony to come good

In an earlier publication, Sports Brief reported that Antony had faced challenges since his high-profile transfer from Ajax to England, but his former teammate remains optimistic about his future.

Anthony Elanga has expressed his backing for Antony despite the difficulties he's encountered both on and off the field, as well as the criticism from fans.
