Leverkusen extend unbeaten record in all competitions
With the win over Roma, Leverkusen have now extended their unbeaten streak in all competitions this season to 47 matches.
To further expound on the enormity of their achievement, no club from the five biggest leagues in Europe (England, Germany, Spain, France, and Italy) has had a longer unbeaten streak, per The Associated Press.
They had no trouble stretching that record against Roma. Florian Wirtz opened the scoring for Bayer Leverkusen in the 28th minute after a lethal counter-attack saw the German side in a 3-on-1 opportunity.
They sealed the victory in the second half when midfielder Robert Andrich struck a long-range effort in the 73rd minute against Daniele De Rossi's men.
The last time Bayer Leverkusen won a European trophy was back in 1988 when they captured the UEFA Cup. They reached the Champions League final in 2002 but lost to Real Madrid.
