Ronwen Williams may be leading the way in the race for the Golden Glove in the DStv Premiership, but he's not even in the top five when it comes to most saves.

The South African number one has already kept 13 clean sheets in 18 league games this season for Mamelodi Sundowns.

Stanley Nwabali has been in impressive form for both club and country this season.

While his impressive performances at the back have ensured Masandawana have only conceded eight goals, the former SuperSport United star hasn't had to deal with a high volume of goal attempts.

Sports Brief looks at the five keepers who have made the most saves this season in the league.

DStv Premiership keepers with the most saves

Stanley Nwabali

Chippa United's Nwabali has seen his star rise in recent months. Following his performance at the Africa Cup of Nations, the Nigerian has had a lot of eyes on him.

His impressive showing hasn't been just for his national side alone, as he's kept 10 clean sheets from 22 games for the Chilli Boys.

Nwabali has also made 63 saves in the league this season, the highest of any keeper.

Daniel Akpeyi

Former Kaizer Chiefs keeper, Akpeyi, has also been kept busy this season. With Moroka Swallows trying to stay about the relegation zone, the Nigerian has been called on to make a lot of saves.

Akpeyi has already registered 52 saves this season but has only kept seven clean sheets.

As noted by SABC Sport, he still believes his side can avoid the drop despite the challenges that have affected their season.

Swallows have Cape Town Spurs and Richards Bays behind them in the danger zone on the table.

Ricardo Goss

SuperSport United have been enduring a terrible time of late in the league, and can't seem to buy a win.

It's been over a month since their last win in all competitions, and the club now find themselves in seventh place on the league table.

Matsatsantsa a Pitori's keeper, Ricardo Goss, has only been able to keep five clean sheets in 20 games, as the Pretoria-based side have been under pressure often.

He has already made 48 saves this season.

Darren Keet

The Cape Town City shot-stopper has already had to make 47 saves this season.

With nine clean sheets to his name, Keet also has the joint-third most clean sheets this season.

However, Cape Town City have conceded 22 goals and only scored 25 this season, leaving them in sixth place on the league table.

Manuel Sapunga

Tied with Keet on 47 saves is Polokwane City's Sapunga. The Equatorial Guinean keeper has had a good showing in his first season in South Africa's top flight, already keeping nine clean sheets.

Rise and Shine have conceded 27 goals from 25 games this season, but Sapunga has only let in 13 from the 18 games he has played.

That's just seven more than Williams has conceded for the Brazilians.

Nwabali attracts interest from European clubs

Sports Brief reported how Nigeria’s Nwabali has been linked with a major transfer.

The Chippa United goalkeeper has attracted interest after his AFCON performance.

The Chilli Boys’ number one helped Nigeria progress to the finals of the tournament.
