Harambee Stars midfielder, Kenneth Muguna has named his top three greatest Kenyan footballers of all time.

Joe Kadenge, Bobby Ogolla, Victor Wanyama, JJ Masiga, Peter Dawo, and Denis Oliech are some of the names that come up when discussing the best footballers Kenya has ever produced.

Kenyan football has gone through leaps and bounds since the East African nation attained independence in the early 1960s.

Although they didn't produce Roger Millas, Didier Drogbas, Rogobert Songs, and Essam El-Hadarys, they had players who were revered by the fans.

One name that always comes up when discussing the Kenyan football GOAT is Kadenge. The late football legend's name dominated football circles for decades, even after they quit football in 1975, per Daily Nation.

However, Oliech, Wanyama, McDonald Mariga, and JJ Masiga also claim the title of Kenyan GOAT. This debate will rage in the coming years until another player dominates.

Muguna names his best Kenyan footballers

Kenyan football fans of different generations will always have their favourites. Muguna named three players, all of whom played in the 21st century.

He exclusively told Sports Brief that Oliech, Wanyama and the current Harambee Stars captain are his three best players ever.

For me, there are two, Michael [Olunga] and Victor [Wanyama]," he said. "[Oliech] is right behind the two."

Olunga's hat trick against Zimbabwe in March means he is just six goals away from overtaking Oliech as the all-time top scorer.

Oliech was part of the Kenyan team that achieved their highest FIFA rankings in the late 2000s. Wanyama became the first Kenyan to play in the Premier League, per FIFA.

Olunga has an opportunity to eclipse all those players mentioned above. If he leads Harambee Stars to the 2025 AFCON and possibly the 2026 World Cup, he might be the Kenyan GOAT.

Mugna talks career, football inspiration

Sports Brief also reported on Muguna's opening up on his journey in football.

Muguna's journey started in western Kenya. A move to Kenyan giants Gor Mahia opened more doors for the midfielder, who went to play in Tanzania for AZAM.
