Chelsea have confirmed that Thiago Silva will leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires after four successful years at Stamford Bridge.

The veteran defender joined the Blues in 2020 as a free agent during Frank Lampard's tenure as manager after leaving French champions, Paris Saint-Germain.

Sports Brief looks at five of his best moments in Blue.

Thiago Silva's five best Chelsea moments

1. Champions League triumph

Silva lost the 2020 UEFA Champions League final with Paris Saint-Germain under Thomas Tuchel. The two reunited at Chelsea and won it in 2021. Per TNT Sports, they recreated their picture from the previous final.

2. First Chelsea goal

He scored nine goals for the club, his first coming in the first season in the 4-1 win over Sheffield United, a glancing header from Hakim Ziyech's free kick. Unfortunately, there were no fans in the stadium due to COVID restrictions.

3. Captain for the first time

The Brazilian's first match wearing the captain's armband was one he wouldn't want to remember again. He led the team out against West Bromwich Albion. He committed an error leading to a goal and was substituted with the Blues down 3-0; they fought back for a 3-3 draw.

4. That clearance against Juventus

The Blues destroyed Juventus 4-0 in one of their best performances as UCL champions in 2021. The result could have gone otherwise if Alvaro Morata had scored an equaliser, but Silva had good positioning and cleared it off the line.

5. Final Wembley appearance

Silva played at Wembley in three of his four seasons but never came out as a champion once. His final appearance was last week in the FA Cup semi-final, which Chelsea lost 1-0 thanks to Bernardo Silva's lone goal.

Silva emotional after after Chelsea loss

Sports Brief reported on Thiago Silva crying after Chelsea's loss to Man City in the FA Cup semi-final to deny them another chance at playing a final at Wembley.

His reaction gave the fans a hint that he could be leaving at the end of the season. This afternoon, April 29, a video message confirmed he would leave the Blues.
