Despite their early elimination, the Premier League side are still set to make some significant cash from the competition due to Dortmund's impressive run.
According to The Times, United could earn as much as £3.4 million after they inserted a unique clause in Jadon Sancho's deal that saw him rejoin Dortmund on loan in January.
It is understood that other clauses in the deal are based on Sancho's appearances for the German club during his short stay.
Dortmund sealed a place in the semi-final of the Champions League after they stunned Atletico Madrid 5-4 on aggregate last Tuesday.
Will Sancho return to Man United?
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if Sancho will continue playing at Old Trafford once he returns from his loan stint with Dortmund.
