The chairman of Chippa United, Siviwe Mpengesi, has cleared the air over transfer rumours involving Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Following his heroics for the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Nwabali has attracted interest from several clubs.

He started in all of Nigeria’s seven matches at the continental showpiece, keeping four clean sheets helping them to finish as runners-up.

Mpengesi disclosed that the South African club will not prevent the Nigerian international from leaving should a good offer arrive.

The 27-year-old former Enyimba of Aba goalkeeper has continued to impress for the Chilli Boys who are now through to the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup.

PSL rivals Kaizer Chiefs are also said to be interested in the goalkeeper, with chairman Mengesi sharing an official perspective on the star.

Mpengesi told iDiski Times:

“We are talking to a few clubs abroad. We also believe that he needs something better, especially after the performance that he showed at the AFCON.
You know, being number two, they were runner-ups, he was number two, second best goalkeeper of AFCON.
“So if the opportunity comes especially abroad, of course even if it comes locally and the offer is for him, it’s not even for us.
"If the offer for him is better then we are not going to hold on to him.”

Nwabali recounts penalty shootout vs South Africa

Sports Brief earlier reported that Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, claimed that Bafana Bafana players were scared to take penalties against him at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Eventual runners-up, Nigeria, defeated South Africa in a mouth-watering semi-final clash inside the Stade de la Paix in Bouake.

Nwabali saved spot-kicks from Teboho Mokoena and Evidence Makgopa to propel the three-time champions to the final match of the tournament.
