Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are two of the biggest clubs in South Africa, and many players would love to represent either side.

Siphelele Mthembu was lucky enough to play for both sides, but he didn’t want to.

The striker admitted that he was a huge fan of Kaizer Chiefs, and didn’t want to play for their Sowetan rivals.

Unfortunately, Mthembu was forced to join the Sea Robbers after they claimed they signed him first while he was training with the Amakhosi.

How did Mthembu end up at Pirates?

As reported by The South African, the striker explained that he had joined Chiefs, but before he could play for them, Pirates claimed he was their player.

"I was scouted by Chiefs, I trained with them, and everything was signed. I was in camp with Chiefs in Cape Town and I heard that I had signed with Pirates. I didn’t understand."

He added that he was forced to join Pirates against his wishes and even ran away from the club.

"It was hard. I think I cried that night because I didn’t want that to happen. All I wanted was to play football. I went to Pirates, but I ran away again, and I went home."

The Sea Robbers then called him to say he would be suspended if he didn’t return to the club.

Mthembu also opened up about the experience and his encounter with players who used muti during a chat with the legendary Robert Marawa.

Mthembu finally played for Chiefs

After two seasons at Pirates, one of which he spent on loan at Bloemfontein Celtic, he left the club to join Golden Arrows.

He also played for Platinum Stars and Free State Stars before finally moving to Chiefs.

Sadly, his stint at the club wasn’t as he hoped, as he only scored two goals in 44 appearances, Transfermarkt noted.

Mthembu compares Johnson to Mosimane

Sports Brief reported how former Chiefs striker, Mthembu compared Cavin Johnson to Pitso Mosimane.

Johnson was named as Amakhosi's interim coach after Molefi Ntseki was sacked by the Sowetan club.

Mthembu played under Johnson at Platinum Stars and believed he could have led the side to success.
