The technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation will meet in Abuja on Thursday, April 18, to decide on the next Super Eagles coach.

Following the expiration of Jose Peseiro's contract at the end of February, the NFF has continued the search for a replacement.

Former Super Eagles winger, Finidi George, had been drafted to take charge temporarily while the team engaged in friendly matches against Ghana and Mali.

The Super Eagles managed a 2-1 win over their arch-rivals Ghana before losing 2-0 to the Eagles in friendlies played last month.

Qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup return in June and the vacant coaching position is being deliberated upon by NFF officials.

Former NFF boss, Amaju Pinnick, favoured Finidi George for the plum job, while other stakeholders have thrown their support for Emmanuel Amuneke, The Sun reports.

Further reports claim that there is a growing swell for the NFF to contract a foreign coach who could be appointed as the technical adviser.

A former coach of the Cameroon national team, Antonio Conceicao, also applied for the job.

His role could simply be advisory as it is the prerogative of the NFF executive committee to make the final decision.

There was controversy when former Super Eagles defender Abbey George declared that local coaches can't handle the big egos of some players.

However, whoever is eventually appointed faces two important games at home against main rivals South Africa and away to Benin in Ivory Coast.

Finidi meets Amuneke at Enyimba Stadium

Sports Brief earlier reported that Nigeria's national team caretaker coach Finidi George was spotted with Emmanuel Amuneke at the Enyimba Stadium as they both battle to become the next permanent coach of the Super Eagles.

The Super Eagles legends have both applied for the vacant coaching role in the Nigerian national team, and the Nigerian Football Federation has yet to reach a conclusion in their selection.

One of the major highlights during the game between Enyimba and Heartland in the NPFL was the meeting between the former Nigerian internationals.
