Kylian Mbappe has taken the lead in the Champions League top scorers charts following his brace against Barcelona on Tuesday night.

The Paris Saint-Germain superstar has been in terrific form this season in the competition, scoring six goals prior to his side's trip to Camp Nou.

The forward bagged a double against Barca in the second half of their second-leg Champions League quarter-final as his side recorded a huge 4-1 win.

Having failed to find the back of the net in the reverse tie played in France, Mbappe was keen to get his name on the scoresheet to help his side progress to the next round.

The Guardian reports that the 25-year-old went on to score from the spot in the 61st minute before adding his second in the 89th minute to guide PSG to the semis of the European tournament.

According to UEFA, Mbappe's double also saw him leapfrog Bayern Munich's Harry Kane at the top of the 2023/24 Champions League top scorers' chart.

The PSG ace now has eight goals, one ahead of Kane, who scored seven times.

However, Kane has a chance to catch up with the France international as he is expected to be in action when Bayern host Arsenal on Wednesday night in another quarter-final fixture.

Meanwhile, Manchester City hotshot Erling Haaland is third with six goals, on level with Antoine Griezmann of Atletico Madrid.
