Barcelona were dumped out of the Champions League quarter-finals after Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe starred for Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg.

The reigning Spanish champions came into the game on the back of an impressive 3-2 win at Parc Des Princes last week.

An early Raphinha goal looked to have confirmed their place in the last four, only for a Ronald Araujo red card in the 29th minute to turn the game on its head.

The centre-back hauled down Bradley Barcola in a last-man challenge, leaving referee Istvan Kovacs with no option but to send him off.

The Uruguayan ace committed a DOGSO (denial of a goal-scoring opportunity) offence, which IFAB laws dictate will result in a straight red card. If it had been inside the penalty area, PSG would have been awarded a penalty, and Araujo would have gotten a booking instead to avoid 'double jeopardy'.

What Ronald Araujo's gesture vs PSG meant

Focus then shifted on Araujo's antics before he left the pitch. The 25-year-old stuck around before Kovacs forced him down the tunnel. As he left the pitch, he was spotted making a gesture with his right hand, leaving fans confused.

The Mirror now reports that the gesture could be a Latin symbol of 'robbery' where Araujo hails from. Alternatively, it could mean that the referee had opened the door for PSG to get back into the tie.

The Parisians did get back in the tie, with Dembele scoring for the second straight game against his former club before Vitinha pulled Luis Enrique's charges level on aggregate. Mbappe then had his say in the tie, scoring a brace to send PSG through.

They will play Borussia Dortmund in the semi-final.

Dembele speaks after Barcelona thumping

Sports Brief has also reported that Dembele spoke after eliminating his former side.

The French winger was the star of the show over the two legs as PSG mounted an impressive comeback in Spain.

Barcelona fans booed Dembele several times after he celebrated scoring against them last week.
