It's no secret that Kaizer Chiefs are searching for a new manager.

The Glamour Boys are looking to appoint a permanent coach for the 2024/25 season, and numerous names have already been thrown about.

While Cavin Johnson currently serves as interim coach, he won't be handed the club's reins going forward.

The latest, and probably one of the more surprising names on the list of people who could be handed the reins, is Manqoba Mngqithi, The South African reports.

The Mamelodi Sundowns senior coach was previously linked with a move to the Amakhosi before the Brazilians extended his deal for another year.

According to reports, the Soweto giants are once more showing interest in Mngqithi.

Mngqithi's contract situation with Sundowns

While Chiefs may be desperate to bring in an experienced face to lead them back to the glory days, the Sundowns man is said to be happy with where he is.

iDiskiTimes reported that his agent, Mike Makaab, stated his client was happy at the club and is negotiating a new deal.

“Manqoba is happy at the club, we’ve said this all along. Now it just depends on us coming to an agreement with the football club to extend his contract."

He added that negotiations were still in the early stages but hoped for more developments in the coming weeks.

Who will Chiefs appoint?

With Mngqithi seemingly committing his future to the Brazilians, Chiefs will have to turn their attention elsewhere. The club has recently been linked with many big-name coaches, including Pitso Mosimane and former Nigeria boss Jose Peseiro.

There are also talks that Benni McCarthy is being considered, but the Manchester United coach was once an Orlando Pirates star, so he may not agree to work with their rivals.

Big names linked with Chiefs coaching post

The Glamour Boys have been linked with several top coaches as they look for a permanent manager to take charge.

Johnson has served as interim boss since Molefi Ntseki was sacked, but he has also failed to live up to expectations.

Sports Brief looks at the big-name coaches who have been considered for the coaching vacancy at the Soweto giants.
