Alex Iwobi entered the record books as Fulham defeated West Ham in a London derby in the English Premier League on Sunday, April 14.

The 27-year-old midfielder was one of the stars on parade as the Cottagers earned a hard-fought 2-0 victory against a struggling David Moyes team bereft of ideas on a sunny afternoon.

According to Complete Sports, Iwobi teed up Andreas Pereira for Fulham’s second goal in the 72nd minute as Fulham rose to 12th on the league table with their 12th win of the season in the EPL.

Fulham went on a devastating counter-attack with Pereira exchanging passes with Iwobi, before side-footing home past the West Ham goalkeeper.

The Super Eagles midfielder, who had previous spells with the Gunners and Everton, has contributed five goals this season for the Cottagers and two assists in 27 appearances.

Iwobi equals Kanu’s EPL record

Iwobi equalled Nwankwo Kanu’s record of most assists by a Nigerian in the Premier League after bagging his 29th in the English topflight since making his debut for Arsenal, Daily Post reports.

The Nigerian midfielder has been key for the Cottagers this season, playing a vital role as Fulham pushes to finish in the top half of the EPL table after climbing to 12th on the log, two points behind Brighton in 10th position.

Before Sunday’s victory, Iwobi had previously shattered John Obi-Mikel’s record of the most minutes played by a Nigerian in EPL history after featuring against Newcastle United the previous weekend.

Iwobi breaks Mikel’s EPL record

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Iwobi achieved a significant milestone on Sunday, April 8, becoming the Nigerian player to have been fielded for the most minutes in the Premier League.

The Fulham midfielder broke a longstanding record held by former Nigerian international Mikel.

The former Super Eagles star, who debuted for Chelsea in 2006, held on to the record until he departed from the west London club in the 2016-2017 season.
