  • The Football Kenya Federation Premier League has entered match week 26
  • Gor Mahia aim to extend the gap at the top against Nzoia Sugar in Bungoma
  • Second-placed Tusker FC host Talanta at the Machakos Stadium on Sunday

The quest for supremacy in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League resumes this weekend with a flurry of matches lined up for Round 26.

Gor Mahia's head coach, Johnathan McKinstry, has urged his team to intensify their efforts as they approach the crucial phases of the competition.

Facing bottom-ranked Nzoia Sugar at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma today, K'Ogalo aim to widen the already substantial eight-point gap that separates them from their closest rivals, Tusker.

Despite their dominant position, the perennial Kenyan champions squandered an opportunity to extend their lead further in the last match, settling for a draw against Kakamega Homeboyz.

McKinstry stressed the importance of maintaining momentum and hunger for success, outlining their objectives for the remaining nine games of the season.

“We want to keep pushing and extend our lead at the top of the standings. We are happy with where we are so far but we are greedy, we want more, and we want to score more goals than we did last season. We want to concede fewer goals too and win more games,” McKinstry said, as quoted by The Star.

Nairobi City Stars are set to host Murang’a Seal at the Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi, while Sofapaka take on Ulinzi Stars at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

Bandari will face Thika-based Bidco United, while Kakamega Homeboyz tackle Kariobangi Sharks at the Mumias Sports Complex. The Coastal team are tied on points with the second-placed Tusker (43), although the Brewers maintain a superior goal difference.

In another fixture, KCB will battle Kenya Police at the Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi, as reported by FKF.

Meanwhile, Posta Rangers will aim for a turnaround when they face AFC Leopards at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, on Sunday. The only top-flight match slated for Monday will see Muhoroni Youth FC taking on Shabana at Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu.

McKinstry praises Gor Mahia players' grit

Sports Brief reported that McKinstry praised his team's determination after securing a 1-0 win against Nairobi City Stars in a league match on February 17.

The match saw Benson Omalla end his seven-game goal drought by striking early.

Omalla's goal, his 10th of the season and a first since December 9, 2023, came just four minutes into the game after receiving a well-executed pass from new signing Shariff Musa
