  • Thabo September is optimistic about Chippa United's progress in the DStv Premiership
  • The Chilli Boys will face Cape Town Spurs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium tonight
  • September has acknowledged the competitive nature of the DStv Premiership in 2024

Chippa United's co-coach, Thabo September, remains steadfast in his belief that despite their current position (14th) on the DStv Premiership table, the team is progressing under his joint leadership with Kwanele Kopo.

The recent 1-0 loss to Polokwane City away from home hasn't dampened their spirits as they gear up to face Cape Town Spurs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium this evening.

According to September, despite the setback, the team's recent performances have shown promise, with five points collected from the last five league games, including a win and two draws.

He expressed confidence that their form will improve, acknowledging the competitive nature of the league but setting their sights on winning upcoming matches.

"We are doing well. The defeat at Polokwane was our second in five games in the league, where we managed to collect five points. It [their form] is going to pick up. From here, the aim is to win all the games but we know that it won’t be easy because this league is competitive,” ” September said, as reported by Herald Live.

On the other hand, Cape Town Spurs coach, Ernst Middendorp, is also optimistic ahead of their clash with the Chilli Boys. Despite their recent 1-0 loss to Moroka Swallows, Middendorp believes in the team's ability to bounce back, highlighting their progress in narrowing the gap between them and Richards Bay on the table.

"It's a home game for Chippa, but let's see what we can do there. Against Swallows, we had a chance to do well, but we've put that behind us and aim to redeem ourselves against Chippa," the German told Sowetan Live.

Chippa will face the challenge without their key striker, Elmo Kambindu, who is suspended.

Kaizer Chiefs Out of Race for Chippa's Nwabali

Sports Brief reported that Chippa slammed a hefty price tag on Stanley Nwabali, forcing rivals Kaizer Chiefs to back out.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper attracted the interest of several clubs after starring for Nigeria at the 2023 AFCON.

Chiefs, one of the leading clubs interested, have reportedly backed out of any deal after Chippa put R30 million as his price tag.
