  • Mohammed Kudus has disclosed his favourite team
  • The Ghana international had a soft spot for Barcelona
  • Barcelona were reportedly interested in Kudus last summer

Mohammed Kudus could have just sent Barcelona a come and get me plea after disclosing his affection for the Catalan giants.

The Ghana and West Ham United star grew up watching the Blaugranas and their talismanic forward Lionel Messi, a player he idolises.

Before moving to England, there were reports Barcelona were interested in the then-Ajax midfielder.

However, the former European champions failed to make a concrete move as the Hammers beat them and several other top sides to the signing of the Ghanaian midfielder.

Kudus disclosed in an interview with Sky Sports that he supported Barcelona during his childhood as they were his favourite team.

"Barcelona," he emphatically answered when asked about his favourite European team, adding Messi as a reason for watching most of their games.

He also added that Ghanaian giants, Hearts of Oak were his favourite local team.

"I was supporting a team in Ghana called Accra Hearts of Oak. It is in the Ghana league. It is in the city I grew in, it is in Accra," he said.

The Ghana international moved to England last summer and has already become an instant hit for West Ham fans.

Kudus has scored 13 goals across all competitions for the Hammers this season, per Transfermarkt.

Kudus names Okocha as favourite African player

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus picked Nigeria legend Austin Okocha as his favourite African player.

The West Ham star believes Okocha is the greatest African player ever following his enormous skills and talent during his playing days.

The former Nigeria captain has won several individual and team accolades, including the BBC Player of the Year award and the Goal of the Year in the Bundesliga in 1993.

Boniface copies Mohammed Kudus' celebration

Sports Brief also reported that Victor Boniface performed Kudus' iconic celebration during the Europa League game between Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham United.

The 23-year-old scored late as the German side defeated the Hammers 2-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final clash.

Boniface rose high to head home a cross from Jonas Hoffman to hand Leverkusen the crucial second goal before their trip to London.
