Six goals were scored in the captivating encounter, leaving the tie finely balanced and setting the stage for another nail-biting showdown in the second leg.

Madrid, City trade goals in 6-goal thriller

Sky Sports reports that Man City drew first blood a mere 108 seconds into the match. Bernardo Silva's crafty free-kick deceived the Madrid wall and caught Andriy Lunin off guard, setting the tone for a thrilling contest.

Los Blancos swiftly retaliated, with Eduardo Camavinga forcing an own goal from Ruben Dias with a sensational strike from outside the box, restoring parity in the 12th minute.

The momentum swung in favour of the hosts when the scorching-hot Brazilian forward, Rodrygo Goes, displayed sheer class by calmly slotting home, leaving his marker in his wake.

Amidst a flurry of high-calibre goals in the first half, the second period witnessed an even higher standard of play and a continuation of remarkable strikes.

Phil Foden, continuing his stellar form this season, unleashed a sublime goal six minutes after the hour mark, per beIN Sports, drawing City level once again.

As Madrid pushed for a lead, they were dealt a devastating blow by Josko Gvardiol, who marked his debut goal for City with a thunderous strike that left Lunin helpless, propelling the Sky Blues back into the lead.

However, the home side had the final say, as Federico Valverde met a cross from Vinicius Junior with a trademark volley, igniting jubilation among the fervent Bernabeu faithful.

After the quarter-final first-leg clash between Real Madrid and Manchester City, the phrase "What a goal" became a street anthem on social media platform X.

Ghanaian sports journalist, @Fentuo_, wrote:

"The phrase “what a goal” is trending! And why not? We’ve been treated to very, very special goals tonight. World-class football!"

Another user, @Priceless_MCI, who appears to be a Man City fan, reacted to one of the goals:

"JOSKO GVARDIOL YOU'RE MAD WHAT A GOAL, WHAT A PLAYER."

@OfficialSitso, a sports pundit, was in awe of Federico Valverde's strike:

"Oh wow. What a goal by Valverde. What a hit. Damm!"

@stevee_ke also marvelled at Foden's banger:

"Today, both UCL games were the best the whole world enjoyed football. What a goal from Phil Foden."

@Opresii added:

"Foden, what a goal"

Arsenal held by Bayern in thrilling draw

In the other quarter-final matchup, Arsenal managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich, according to Sports Brief, denying Harry Kane a victorious return to his old haunt.

Leandro Trossard played the role of hero, entering the game from the bench to net the equaliser late at the Emirates Stadium.

The Belgian's response followed Kane's earlier penalty-spot strike, which had put Bayern ahead 2-1 in the first half.
