  • The former Red Devil recently linked up with an old teammate
  • He shared cheeky snaps on his social media, igniting comments from fans

David de Gea reunited with his former Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes with a cheeky message on social media.

The Spanish goalkeeper was allowed to leave Manchester United after 12 seasons in May 2023 after his contract ran out.

He was replaced by Andre Onana, who signed for United for £47million from Ajax as Erik ten Hag reunited with his former shot-stopper.

Since leaving United, De Gea has remained unattached to any club, despite numerous offers, particularly from the Middle East.

As he waits for the perfect opportunity to return to the field, De Gea continues to connect with some of his former colleagues.

One such player is United captain Fernandes, who is seemingly good friends with the former Atletico Madrid man.

In a post shared on Instagram on Tueday, April 9, De Gea posed side by side with Fernandes as the duo took several selfies.

He captioned the photo “Dumb and Dumber”, in a movie reference to the classic Jim Carrey film with the same name.

The film is about two friends who set out on an adventurous road trip to return a briefcase left by a woman at an airport terminal, according to IMDB.

Bruno Fernandes kept the gag running as he issued a cheeky comment to the post by dragging another former Man United player to the banter.

“(We) are missing the biggest dumbest @juanmatagarcia”

De Gea for Man United

Despite leaving United in gloomy circumstances, there is no denying De Gea’s impact at the club.

Last season, he was the only player in the squad who had experienced winning a Premier League at the club.

According to Transfermarkt, the Spaniard made 545 appearances for United, the seventh most in the club’s history.

He also boasts more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in United history with 190.

Why goalkeepers use Vaseline

Sports Brief also reported on why goalkeepers apply Vaseline on their gloves during football matches.

The practice is common during the wet season, when their gloves tend to be more slippery.

Andre Onana was the latest goalie to be spotted applying petroleum jelly during United’s game against Liverpool on Sunday, April 7.
