Impressive midfielder, Moses Simon, will undergo surgery following an injury he suffered during Nigeria's 2-0 loss to Mali.

He was said to have suffered a fractured ankle on his left leg and will reportedly undergo a period of medical supervision.

Simon has been ruled out of action for the remainder of the season following the injury he sustained during the game against the Eagles.

The Nantes of France winger collided with Mali goalkeeper, Mamadou Samassa, in the first half of the encounter played at the Grande Stade de Marrakech, Morocco.

The French club have confirmed the 28-year-old stands no chance of playing again this season in a huge blow for the Canaries, who are struggling to survive relegation from Ligue 1, Daily Post reports.

Simon has scored three goals and registered six assists for his top flight club in the current campaign. He recently signed a new three-year contract with Nantes.

Omeruo laments Moses Simon's injury

Meanwhile, Kenneth Omeruo said the injury to Simon is a setback to the national team after the winger suffered a horrific knock in the Super Eagles' loss to Mali on Tuesday, March 26.

The 28-year-old forward was rushed to the hospital after colliding with Mali’s goalkeeper, Samassa, while trying to give the Super Eagles the lead in the friendly encounter in Morocco.

Simon is now set to miss Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic in June and is set to undergo surgery for his injury.

Simon among Europe’s best dribblers

According to data courtesy of sports analytics organisation, OptaJose, Simon was among the most efficient dribblers across Europe.

He was ranked in fourth behind Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku, and Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane.

As Sports Brief reported, the statistics further highlight Simon has completed over 55% of his attempted dribbles this season.
